PranaShanti has been offering Yoga Teacher Training programs since 2008. We have offered over 35 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training Programs in the Hatha and Kundalini Yoga traditions.

Our 200-hour programs provides a solid foundational background in yoga so that you can confidently teach holistic, all-levels classes in a clear and compassionate manner. You will deepen your experience of postures and meditation, expand your understanding of yogic and western anatomy, yoga philosophy, and Ayurveda, and you will refine your communication and listening skills all while being part of a supportive community that fosters inquiry, creativity and lifelong learning.

PranaShanti’s 300-hour programs gives one the opportunity for further personal transformation and a deepening of practice and knowledge.

We believe yoga is for everyone and teaching opportunities happen everywhere – on and off the mat. PranaShanti graduates take their yoga studies into all avenues of teaching whether on the mat in a yoga studio room, to the workplace, to school, or sharing one-on-one with a friend or family member.

Our Yoga School and Yoga Teacher Training programs are approved by Yoga Alliance and we are a certified educational institution by Employment and Social Development Canada and can therefore issue Tuition Tax Receipts for qualified programs.

Teaching with Purpose: Designing Smart, Safe, and Creative Classes for All
Learn how to thoughtfully and intelligently create mixed-level group classes that meet students where they are.
In this training, you’ll apply an alignment-based approach to sequencing that is grounded in applied anatomy and sound bio-mechanical principles.
 
You’ll receive a manual that includes templates for sequencing full-spectrum classes as well as postural categories including back-bends, hip openers/twists/seated poses, arm balances/inversions, and restorative yoga.
 
You’ll also practice energetic, elemental, and theme-based approaches to class offerings. You can expect an interactive combination of lecture, individual exercises, small group work, and practice building and teaching poses.

Chair Yoga Training
For ALL Yoga Teachers and Students!
Chair Yoga adapts traditional yoga poses so that they can be done with a chair for support, making yoga more accessible for all people.
 
Our society is aging and there are many people unable to practice a standard yoga class. Chair yoga also provides a gentle but effective practice for those with mobility or disability issues.
 
The chair takes the place of the yoga mat, and poses are seated or supported by the chair. You get a warm-up, stretching and strengthening, whether you’re coming off a sports injury, challenged by the physical limits of aging, or have been sitting for too many hours at your desk.
 
This program will offer you the tools to help you and/or your students build strength, awareness and confidence as well as to increase well-being both physically and mentally. Learn how to work with this ever growing group who can get so much benefit from the practice of yoga with the assistance of a chair!

Teaching Yoga and Mindfulness to Children

Calm Kids Yoga® Training was created by Laura Fowler Massie to help share the power and magic of children’s yoga with educators, yoga teachers and parents.
 
Laura is an experienced Early Childhood Educator (ECE) with a BA in Psychology and a M.Ed in adult education. She is also a 500hr RYT Hatha Yoga Teacher with specialized training in children’s yoga, restorative yoga and infant massage.
 
With more than 30 years in the yoga and early education sectors, she brings a wealth of knowledge to this children’s yoga training. Laura is a college professor specializing in child development and play-based learning theory.

Prenatal & Postnatal Yoga Training

For Parents, Caregivers, Yoga Teachers and Students!

Yoga can offer amazing benefits for pregnancy, labour and parenthood; however, there are things that teachers and practitioners need to know!

This interactive course is designed for anyone keen to learn more about Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga, including yoga teachers, fitness instructors, doulas and other health professionals as well as parents to be.

This course will share practices for each stage of the journey from yoga support for conception to partner yoga for pregnancy and labour to yogic recommendations for postpartum recovery to parent/baby yoga poses for bonding. Resources will also be provided to comfort women in the event of pregnancy loss.

Restorative Yoga Training – Foundation

For ALL Yoga Teachers and Students!
Restorative yoga is a style of yoga that makes use of props to fully support the body so that it can naturally relax and let go.
Join Anne Wanda Tessier, an experienced restorative yoga teacher and trainer, for this 30 Hour foundational Restorative Yoga Teacher Training.
 
In this training, you will learn a variety of restorative poses based on her trainings with Judith Hanson Lasater as well as variations for each pose. We will explore how to use props to fully support the body as well as learn how to sequence a class based on individual health conditions as well as group classes. We will explore various ways to elicit the relaxation response with breathing exercises and guided meditations and learn gentle exercises to include in a restorative yoga practice.
 
Learn the benefits of restorative yoga on the body, mind and soul, and its effect on the organs and the nervous system. Through direct experience, practice teaching, and feedback, you leave with the ability to confidently teach a restorative class and learn how you can incorporate restorative yoga in your personal practice.

Yoga Nidra Teacher Training

Yoga Nidra, or yogic sleep, is a type of meditation based on the ancient yogic anatomy of the Koshas, the 5 subtle bodies. Sometimes described as a long savasana, it is actually a combination of deep body relaxation and mental awareness.
Yoga Nidra is a quiet journey inward to stillness that transforms and releases old habits, fatigue, worry, and stress. Yoga Nidra is a technique for physical rejuvenation, mental relaxation, spiritual growth, and overall wellness.
 
This training is for those who would like to offer students the opportunity to experience a systematic method of conscious relaxation. Yoga Nidra has been found to be effective in treating many of the physical symptoms of stress, including insomnia, anxiety, and depression. It is also helpful in the treatment of PTSD and addictions.

Hot Stone Restorative Yoga Training

For ALL Yoga Teachers!
Join Anne Wanda Tessier (RYT500) for a deeply relaxing and nurturing Hot Stone Restorative Yoga Training. Learn about the history and benefits of this practice and find out how to sequence a restorative yoga class with the use of hot stones.
 
In this full day training, we will review various restorative poses which are ideal for placing hot stones as well as practice how to fully support the body and use props to ensure safety while placing stones. Explore how to use heated volcanic stones to help relax muscles, ground the body and provide comfort to your students.
 
You will learn how to set-up and clean up after a hot-stone restorative class and how to take care of the basalt stones and hot-stone heater. You will also obtain valuable insight on how to promote and manage hosting a hot stone restorative class for individuals, small groups and larger classes.

Yin Yoga Teacher Training – Foundation

For ALL Yoga Teachers!
Discovering the healing potential of a yin practice is becoming more popular. This 25-hour training is designed for both yoga teachers and dedicated yoga practitioners to delve deep into the practice and theory of Yin Yoga, and explore anatomy, sequencing, safety in postures, introduction to meridian theory, and mindfulness.
 
This training will benefit teachers, practitioners and students alike. It can be used as a therapeutic treatment or as a personal practice. You don’t need to have the desire to teach, only the openness to fully immerse yourself in yoga.
 
This 25-hour intensive is a strong complement for a current Yoga Teacher of any style. It can also be a springboard for the student who is ready to take the leap into a broader perspective and fuller appreciation of the practice of Yin Yoga.

With a total of 200+ hours including 180 contact hours and 35 personal hours you will graduate as a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT). This format provides you with as much knowledge and hands-on practice teaching time as possible.

Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training 200 Hour

Kundalini Yoga and Meditation focuses on the movement of energy in the body. The style of practice used in Kundalini Yoga and Meditation allows for people of all ages and levels of mobility to have a powerful experience through the combination of simple rhythmic exercises, yoga postures, breathwork, and meditation techniques including sound and mantra.

Kundalini Yoga also has a direct impact on the major systems in the body, particularly the glandular and nervous systems. When these systems are activated and strengthened we can better manage the stresses of daily life, create greater peace of mind and improve our overall health and well-being.

During our time together you will become immersed in, and learn how to teach Kundalini Yoga and Meditation.  With this program you will be able to teach confidently whether online or in-person. Upon successful completion you be able to teach yoga to people in your community, your family, the workplace and anywhere in the world.

Our Teaching Assistant Program is an opportunity for yoga teachers who want to make a difference for the participants in the training.

As an assistant to the training you will deepen your teaching practice, advance your yoga knowledge and gain more confidence and experience in your presentation and teaching skills.

Many of our teaching assistants also join our sub teaching roster or teach classes on our regular class schedule, lead class series or offer workshops.

Since 2008, through the generosity of donations and believing in the concept of serving your community, we have been offering Work Exchange and Scholarship positions for our 200-hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training and 200-hour Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training Programs. 

As of 2022, over 125 individuals have participated in this program. In the spirit of community and to support students becoming yoga teachers we welcome you to explore and share these amazing opportunities.
