A Numerology Reading for 2015

A Numerology Reading for 2015

From Devinder Kaur, PranaShanti's lead trainer and owner, a numerology reading to prepare you for the coming year. In Kundalini yoga, numerology is a system that assesses the significance of numbers in a person's life. It is simply a framework for considering life, personality, and events, so that we act in a way most beneficial to our health, spirit, and success. As every year does, 2015 brings us a new cycle of energy and expansion. How you respond to stress, and how you let this response affect your communication with others will affect your quality of life. There will be continuing fast energy shifts in 2015!  Tap into your intuition and learn how to ride this energetic wave with the most clarity and productivity with Yoga and Meditation. The overall number for 2015 is 8, the universal number that represents the life cycle. While you may feel ready to leap into the future, you need to have a better and more effective plan...

The Body Remembers: Resolving trauma through yoga

It is more common than we think that people with a significant degree of trauma will turn to yoga for healing and even more common for trauma survivors to turn to strong and disciplined physical practices. Unfortunately, most yoga teachers and most students aren’t fully aware of how to support themselves and others in the process of unravelling the complexity of the trauma in a safe way. Students walk in and out of yoga classes everyday without sharing their feedback with teachers. So, sometimes, as teachers, we simply don’t notice or know that a student may have just walked out of class feeling exposed, raw, vulnerable, and confused about how a practice that has a potential for healing has just surfaced the very adverse emotional state that he or she has spent so much time suppressing and masking. Or sometimes, the immediate feeling after a class is a lifted energy. The adverse emotional state may surface a few hours later,...

Winter Solstice Celebration of Light

Winter Solstice Celebration of Light

Date and Time: Sunday, December 21, 2014 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm Event Details Midwinter's day has been an important time for celebration throughout the ages. On this shortest day of the year, the sun is at its lowest and weakest, a pivot point from which the light will grow stronger and brighter. This is the turning point of the year. To celebrate this sacred time we will walk an incredible light-filled Labyrinth that is being created for us in the Spirit Room! The labyrinth is a metaphor for what is sacred in our lives. When we walk the path inward, we carry our burdens with us. When we meditate or pray in the center, we ask for grace, forgiveness, and understanding. When we walk the path outward, we are lighter, more joyful and ready yet again to take on life's challenges. Barbara Brown of Canadian Labyrinth Ventures will be creating our Labyrinth and live music by Canadian Singer Leah Longo and her band, will enhance our sacred...

Going Beyond the Doorway: Yoga’s Abundant Offerings – Tanya Riley

“There is just enough suffering to get you in the door,” writes Michael Stone in The Inner Tradition of Yoga, “so that is our starting point.” I love this viewpoint - it highlights the simple fact that some discomfort, be it mild or intense, is often what first propels to yoga. For some, it may be physical suffering, such as a sore back, tight shoulders or hips, and for others it could be discomfort on a mental level, such as anxiety, worry, or restlessness. You might have been drawn to yoga because of a major life shift, including changing relationships or illness. Whatever the reason may be, most of us come into the arms of yoga seeking some relief, and for the most part, yoga meets us exactly where we are at and then graciously offers us more. I first came to yoga because I was finding my new job as a Montessori preschool teacher quite stressful. Days of trying to...

Running from Rishikesh: A Western Kundalini Yogi in India’s Yoga Capital – by Victoria Lynes

Running from Rishikesh: A Western Kundalini Yogi in India’s Yoga Capital – by Victoria Lynes

This time last year, my sons (then 9 and 12) and I were making our final preparations for a 5 month journey around the world, one month of that time to be spent in India. I wrote a weekly blog while we were away, but since returning, even though my mind will often take me back to India’s sights and smells, I have not written about her at all. I am not sure why. Those 29 days are still seeping into my consciousness, and with all things India, I often find it difficult to describe my experience. Certain images will show up unexpectedly, scenes as contrasting as the country itself. Pictures of a quiet camel ride into the Thar Desert will be overtaken with memories of being practically swarmed upon as we boarded a local train in an incredibly hot and dry Rajasthan. Then come images of grand palaces and glittering ornamentation, followed by scenes of mutilated children begging in...
