Creating Balance – Sequencing a Yang + Yin Class
with Jenna Switzer and Stéphane Ippersiel
February 23-25, 2018

For ALL Yoga Teachers and Students!

Yang + Yin Yoga blends two styles of yoga into one practice to combine the benefits of  dynamic sequences and standing postures with more passively held yoga poses.

Yang is the masculine principle – light, active, outward, moving, hot, retrospective. Yang Yoga builds on these principles and through traditional asana based practices helps us to strengthen and tone the body, improve flexibility and circulation, increase stamina, synchronize movement with breath, and remove tension and obstacles in the body to allow the breath and prana to flow.

Yin is the feminine principle – passive, receptive, reflective, cool, and introspective.  Yin Yoga builds on these principles and helps to stimulate the meridians (energy channels) bringing balance to the organs in the body, improve flexibility and joint mobility, calm and balance the mind and body and reduce stress and anxiety.  Yin yoga also works deeply on the connective tissues (fascia, tendons and ligaments).

In traditional yoga, this pair of complementary approaches is known as abhyasa (practice) and vairagya (dispassion). Together we will explore the combination of vigorous (yang) and passive (yin) postures to create balance in our personal practice and teaching.
