An excellent workshop for runners, cyclists and those looking to ease knee pain and stiff hips, this MELT Method workshop will focus entirely on our hard-working lower half.
The MELT Method uses specially-designed foam rollers and balls to rehydrate fascial tissue (also called connective tissue). Areas of our fascia get dried out and stiff with repetitive motions and postures (in other words, just living life!), and the MELT Method is a technique to help hydrate this tissue back to functional health. As fascia is a distinct tissue from muscles, this is not a traditional foam rolling class! A pain-free technique, MELT is designed to ease fascial tension, bringing hydration to the tissue through gentle compression techniques.
Cost: $40.00 per person in-advance, $45.00 per person day of.
Maximum of 12 participants.
Location: PranaShanti Yoga Centre, 950 Gladstone Ave., Ottawa, ON. Studio: Soul Room.
About Rachel:
Rachel Lipton is a Level 2 MELT Method® Instructor and Registered Acupuncturist.
“I found MELT during the pandemic while trying to find a cost-effective way to manage my posture-based pain and tension areas. After practicing for two years, and using it while training for a short tri-athalon, I decided I couldn’t keep it to myself any longer! As a registered acupuncturist, I found the overlap between fascial function and the ancient Chinese meridians thrilling. I’m delighted to be sharing this method with the Ottawa community.”
Immerse yourself in a deeply soothing experience that combines gentle yoga and a live harmonic sound relaxation.
You’ll be supported in releasing stress and tension through gentle yoga postures. As your body settles, you’ll be enveloped in the healing vibrations of crystal and metal singing bowls, chimes, Gong, and other meditative instruments—designed to quiet the mind and restore your energy.
Whether you're new to yoga or a seasoned practitioner, this class is a beautiful way to reset and recharge.

Learn to assist safely, skilfully, and confidently
As a yoga teacher, you’ve learned verbal cues and have developed your own phrasing to guide students safely through a practice. Verbal cueing and verbal assisting are mainstays of the yoga teaching experience; however, it is sometimes helpful to physically show yogis how to be more stable and easeful in their asanas. Confident touch will communicate to your students that you see them and that you are there to support them. It will also help them enrich their practice.
In this course, you will learn to augment your verbal cues with physical adjustments and assists intended to stabilize the yogi’s stance and possibly introduce ease and openness in their asanas. With a deepened understanding of anatomy and alignment, you will learn how to “read” bodies to provide relevant guidance, given a yogi’s physicality and their level of experience and understand your biomechanics to safely assist students.
After a few years of virtual/no-contact teaching, the time has come to re-learn how to adjust and assist our yoga students. Your confident, purposeful touch will help your students open to their unique potential.
Learning Objectives:
Keeping yourself safe, and understanding the biomechanics of the teacher’s body and the student’s
The difference between an adjustment and an assist
Ethical touch: how to use your hands - how to be professional, neutral and intentional
Alignment vs respecting each student’s unique physiology: it is very important to be able to recognize whether offering an adjustment to one of your students is absolutely necessary
Using your breath in and as an assist
Asking for feedback, and being okay if it doesn’t work
Recognizing resistance in your students
Hands-on assists, when done with care and consent, can be a valuable tool for yoga teachers. By respecting boundaries, using appropriate techniques, and prioritizing student comfort, you can create a safe and supportive class environment for both student and teacher.
