Our knees literally carry us through life. These hinge joints bend and unbend our legs, making things like walking, running, climbing stairs, and getting through daily life possible. When mobility here is limited, you may begin to notice it ripple outward—into your posture, your balance, and your overall sense of stability.
If you’ve ever experienced discomfort in the knees, you may already know they don’t work in isolation. The knees are deeply influenced by what’s happening above them in the hips, and below them in the ankles and feet. When the knees aren’t moving well, the entire system adapts.
In this 4-week series, we’ll use body awareness, traditional Hatha yoga postures, and targeted mobility work to support the entire knee system—from hips to feet. These practices are simple, intentional, and designed to help you build strength, move with more ease, and feel steady and confident in your body.
Throughout the series, you’ll:
Explore the relationship between the hips, knees, ankles, and feet
Improve joint mobility and functional range of motion
Build strength and stability to better support the knees
Learn alignment principles that encourage sustainable movement patterns
Develop greater body awareness through mindful movement and breatpportive modifications and accessible variations for different bodies and abilities
Weekly Focuses:
Week 1 – Foundations & Awareness You’ll begin by exploring how the knees function within the larger movement system. Through gentle mobility practices and foundational postures, you’ll cultivate awareness of alignment, weight distribution, and movement habits.
Week 2 – Hips & Knee Support This week focuses on the hips and their role in knee stability and mobility. Expect mindful strengthening, opening practices, and movement patterns designed to create more support through the upper leg and pelvis.
Week 3 – Ankles, Feet & Balance The feet and ankles provide the foundation for healthy knee movement. you’ll explore mobility, grounding, balance, and stability practices that help create a more resilient connection from the ground up.
Week 4 – Integration & Functional Movement In the final week, you’ll bring the whole system together. Through integrated movement practices and traditional Hatha sequences, you’ll explore how strength, mobility, and awareness can support more easeful movement in everyday life.
Whether you’re looking to support knee health, improve mobility, or simply move through life with greater comfort and confidence, this series offers a thoughtful and accessible approach to whole-body support.
Open to all levels. Some yoga or movement experience may be helpful, but not required.
Cost: $120.00 before September 10, 2026. $135.00 thereafter.
Location: PranaShanti Yoga Centre, 650 Gladstone Avenue, Ottawa, ON. Studio: Soul Room

An excellent workshop for runners, cyclists and those looking to ease knee pain and stiff hips, this MELT Method workshop will focus entirely on our hard-working lower half.
The MELT Method uses specially-designed foam rollers and balls to rehydrate fascial tissue (also called connective tissue). Areas of our fascia get dried out and stiff with repetitive motions and postures (in other words, just living life!), and the MELT Method is a technique to help hydrate this tissue back to functional health. As fascia is a distinct tissue from muscles, this is not a traditional foam rolling class! A pain-free technique, MELT is designed to ease fascial tension, bringing hydration to the tissue through gentle compression techniques.
Cost: $40.00 per person in-advance, $45.00 per person day of.
Maximum of 12 participants.
Location: PranaShanti Yoga Centre, 950 Gladstone Ave., Ottawa, ON. Studio: Soul Room.
About Rachel:
Rachel Lipton is a Level 2 MELT Method® Instructor and Registered Acupuncturist.
“I found MELT during the pandemic while trying to find a cost-effective way to manage my posture-based pain and tension areas. After practicing for two years, and using it while training for a short tri-athalon, I decided I couldn’t keep it to myself any longer! As a registered acupuncturist, I found the overlap between fascial function and the ancient Chinese meridians thrilling. I’m delighted to be sharing this method with the Ottawa community.”

The full moon can be a meaningful time for reflection and reset. Its natural cycle offers a helpful reminder to pause, reflect, release, and create more balance in both body and mind.
A full moon practice can also awaken our creativity and inner clarity. Whether you are working on creative projects or seeking fresh perspectives on life’s challenges, this is a beautiful time to let go of stagnant energy and make space for insight and renewal.
In this class, you will unwind and reset through slow, grounding yoga postures, allowing the body to open and the nervous system to settle. You will then move into a deeply restful Yoga Nidra—a guided, meditative relaxation that supports effortless release, inner healing, and integration.
This practice invites all to soften, to listen inward, and to welcome the spaciousness that the full moon brings.
You’re welcome to bring an eye pillow or anything that adds to your comfort.

Anxiety can manifest itself in a myriad of different ways. Mental and emotional symptoms can range from mild to severe and are extremely common among the general population. These may include: worry, uneasiness, fear, withdrawal, avoidance, desire to control, mental and physical agitation, nervousness, compulsiveness, obsessiveness, panic, and more.
An anxious psychological state then has effects on physical and physiological functions, such as sleep, digestion, breathing, nervous system regulation, and more. When symptoms of anxiety become difficult to manage, they can also affect interpersonal relationships and life tasks - leaving one feeling more and more fearful and insecure as time goes on.
Whether symptoms of anxiety are new or familiar to you, and no matter to what degree, this 4 week class series will provide you with concrete tools and practices to ease your suffering.
Yoga Therapy is an integrative approach, working at the level of the body (physical), the breath (physiological), and mind (psychological) - a very effective course of treatment on its own for some students, or as a great adjunct to other courses of therapy or treatment for other students.
Although a yoga therapy practice is ideally adapted to the uniqueness of each individual, there are general principles that apply for all students suffering from a similar condition. Classes will be led with these guiding principles in mind, while modifications will be offered as needed, in order to maximize the desired effect of the practices.
Each weekly class includes:
A brief teaching on a topic related to the yogic perspective on anxiety and mental health
A yoga therapy sequence intended to address the multi-dimensional nature of anxiety (the physical, physiological, and psychological manifestation of symptoms). Asanas, pranayama, chanting, mantra, and meditation will be the primary tools practiced in these sequences.
A brief Q&A period after the practice along with guidance and resources to support students’ home practice between weekly classes.
Dates and Times:
Mondays, October 26, 2025, to November 16, 2026
6 pm to 7:30 pm
Cost: SAVE! $165.00 per person for the 4 week series before October 12, 2026. $185.00 per person thereafter.
Location: PranaShanti Education Centre, 650 Gladstone Ave, 2nd Floor, Ottawa, ON.
Notes: Space is limited to ensure individual and personalized attention. Class size is 18 participants in order to ensure individual attention and time for questions each week.
Dress in comfortable clothes that you can move in easily. Although there are many props at PranaShanti, if you have some favourite ones at home, please bring them with you. This may include a yoga mat, blocks, a blanket or cushion.
Familiarity with how our bodies are put together, how their different systems function, and the mechanics of how they move can deepen our understanding of how to practice yoga safely, effectively, and efficiently. Learning anatomy, biomechanics and physiology can help us prevent injury, maintain a healthy, mobile body over our lifetime, and become more effective yoga teachers.
Program Outline:
In this course, we’ll examine Western anatomy through the lens of yoga by studying and applying to practice the following:
The ten systems of the body and how yoga can positively affect them
The anatomy and biomechanics of the breath and their central importance in how we practice asana and breathwork
The anatomy of the spine and how to practice asana safely and effectively by utilizing the biomechanics of the spine
The anatomy of the major joints of the body, the five primary causes of joint pain, and how yoga can help maintain healthy joints
This course will be a combination of lecture and applied practice of what we study so that students complete this course with a sense that knowledge of Western anatomy isn’t only information on a page but living, breathing concepts that can be practically applied to our yoga practice and teaching.
There is no pre-reading required for this course. Handouts for each subject will be distributed prior to our weekly sessions.
Dates and Times:
September 29, 2026 - October 27, 2026.
Five (5) Tuesday evenings from 6 pm ET – 9 pm ET.

Learn to assist safely, skilfully, and confidently
As a yoga teacher, you’ve learned verbal cues and have developed your own phrasing to guide students safely through a practice. Verbal cueing and verbal assisting are mainstays of the yoga teaching experience; however, it is sometimes helpful to physically show yogis how to be more stable and easeful in their asanas. Confident touch will communicate to your students that you see them and that you are there to support them. It will also help them enrich their practice.
In this course, you will learn to augment your verbal cues with physical adjustments and assists intended to stabilize the yogi’s stance and possibly introduce ease and openness in their asanas. With a deepened understanding of anatomy and alignment, you will learn how to “read” bodies to provide relevant guidance, given a yogi’s physicality and their level of experience and understand your biomechanics to safely assist students.
After a few years of virtual/no-contact teaching, the time has come to re-learn how to adjust and assist our yoga students. Your confident, purposeful touch will help your students open to their unique potential.
Learning Objectives:
Keeping yourself safe, and understanding the biomechanics of the teacher’s body and the student’s
The difference between an adjustment and an assist
Ethical touch: how to use your hands - how to be professional, neutral and intentional
Alignment vs respecting each student’s unique physiology: it is very important to be able to recognize whether offering an adjustment to one of your students is absolutely necessary
Using your breath in and as an assist
Asking for feedback, and being okay if it doesn’t work
Recognizing resistance in your students
Hands-on assists, when done with care and consent, can be a valuable tool for yoga teachers. By respecting boundaries, using appropriate techniques, and prioritizing student comfort, you can create a safe and supportive class environment for both student and teacher.
