Elemental Journey: Aligning with the Rhythms of Nature with Kathleen Burr
June 2-4, 2017

PranaShanti Yoga Centre is delighted to welcome Kathleen Burr back to Ottawa for a weekend of healing and upliftment.  Join Kathleen for a Friday evening Toning Circle + Sound Bath and/or also a 2-Day Urban Retreat experience.

Toning Circle + Sound Bath with Kathleen Burr & Friends
Friday, June 2, 6 pm – 9 pm

We are all unique vibratory beings and the human voice is a powerful healing instrument. Join us for an evening of openhearted connection to amplify the fundamental harmony within you!

Our ceremony begins with a gentle breath and movement practice. The group is held with care as we affirm our intentions (the energy behind the sound) and explore the beauty of simple self-created tones and sonic tools. This experiential learning opportunity allows you to play and freely express! Please note: everyone is welcome and there’s no need to be able to carry a tune.

Toning can have a remarkable effect on the body-mind system:

  • Increasing oxygen to the cells and reducing stress related hormones
  • Lowering blood pressure, respiratory rate and heart rate
  • Boosting the immune system and increasing lymphatic circulation
  • Re-patterning the nervous system (your body and energy fields follow)
  • Releasing endorphins (self-made opiates that work as natural pain relievers) and oxytocin (the “bliss and bonding” hormone)

The restorative sound bath integrates Crystal Bowls, Tuning Forks, Koshi Chimes, Freenotes Wings, and other sonic tools to accompany our loving voices. Kathleen Burr is grateful to be assisted by her dear friends, Joa Keur and Melissa Newitt, as they share the beautiful gift of Reiki to support deep relaxation and robust integration.

Kathleen was keen to learn about the Yoga of Sound in 2011 during her Hatha YTT at PranaShanti. She continues formal training in a variety of therapeutic modalities as an active member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists and Sound Healers Association.

Joa is a Registered Hatha and Kundalini Yoga Teacher who has been practicing yoga for 25 years. He also works in the visual, performing and holistic healing arts.

Melissa has been working with Reiki for nearly a decade, completing her Usui Reiki Master Teacher Certification and Karuna Holy Fire Reiki Master Teacher Certification.

Cost & Registration

$55.00 per person for the Toning Circle.

Please note that the group is limited to 40 people. Please sign up early!

The whole of your being is a unique combination of earth, water, fire, air and space, along with their respective physical and psychological qualities. When our elements are balanced, we set the foundation for overall wellness in body and mind.

Yoga enables us to restore equilibrium by activating the elements and accessing their inner power. This rejuvenating experience integrates gentle breath, movement, and sound practices with guided meditation and affirmation. Therapeutic grade essential oils and self-massage prepare participants for fully supported restorative postures and the deep relaxation of Yoga Nidra.

A compassionate container is offered for both personal reflection and small group exercises to support self-discovery and meaningful connection. Everyone will receive a guide outlining the practices shared as well as access to meditation recordings.

Join us for this 2-day urban retreat to nourish your whole being and learn to easefully guide yourself back into harmony!

About Kathleen

Forest

Kathleen has a welcoming presence and her approach is focused on empowering self-discovery and self-healing. With great gratitude, she honours the tradition of Yoga and her teachers from all walks of life. Kathleen’s passion for Yoga as a healing art stems from direct experience of its transformative potential, specifically in addressing anxiety and depression. Her work is focused on cultivating a friendly relationship with body and mind using gentle breath, movement, and sound practices.

She is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 500) and active member of the Yoga Alliance, International Association of Yoga Therapists, and Sound Healers Association. The foundation for her teaching is based on the principles of Hatha Yoga; Integrative Yoga Therapy (IYT) as taught by Joseph Le Page, Lilian Le Page, Maria Mendola and other faculty; and LifeForce Yoga (LFY) as taught by Amy Weintraub. Exploring a wide spectrum of therapeutic techniques also led her to study sound as a healing modality and complete further training in energy medicine and transformational bodywork.

Through the language of invitation and inquiry, Kathleen holds space for students to make clear choices based on their own experiences in the moment. This trauma-sensitive approach meets diverse needs with great care and helps to build resilience. Her intention is to make Yoga accessible and plant seeds of self-love for the well being of all.

After 4 joyous years of teaching at PranaShanti Yoga Centre in Ottawa, Kathleen took a leap of faith to align with a long-dream of living on the west coast of Canada. Being on Vancouver Island has allowed her to cultivate more spaciousness and a stronger personal practice under the guidance of her teacher, Brian James Kroeker.
