Ayuryoga Foundations of Practice

One of the goals of Yoga is help us understand the inner workings of the mind so that we may condition ourselves to maintain a state of complete awareness, peace and tranquility. AyurYoga? (as created by Vasant Lad) is the perfect blend of Ayurveda and Yoga and offers both practice and theory to support this inner journey. Through the Ayurvedic view of the doshas, gunas, srotas, marma as well as energetic models of koshas, nadis and chakras, AyurYoga? techniques bring it all together. This is a truly unique practice of delving deep into understanding the nature of the mind and letting go of previous understandings of it. Involves practice, theory and discussion.

Understanding Pranayama

The fundamental principles of pranayama will be explored and practiced, deepening our understanding of how the movement of breath affects both body and mind. The anatomy of breathing, philosophy of breathing, and specific pranayama techniques will be discussed, including instruction on ujjayi, violma, and bhramari breaths that form the foundation of pranayamaas. Specific techniques of breath, body awareness and how to set up for pranayama practice will also be covered, as well as contraindications and cautions in the practice.
