Workshop - Toning Circle + Celebration

    Sunday, October 1st, 4:00pm - 6:00pm
Workshop - Toning Circle + Celebration

Kathleen is returning to Ottawa and would love to see you!

Join Kathleen for an afternoon of self-care and community connection. We’ll explore the power of self-created sound coupled with intention to facilitate personal and planetary transformation.

Toning increases oxygen to the cells, lowers blood pressure and heart rate, reduces levels of stress related hormones, and releases endorphins (opiates that work as natural pain relievers) and oxytocin (the “trust” hormone for bliss and bonding).

This is an opportunity for free expression – no experience is needed to participate.

Cost: Please register with a donation of $20.00 as this is a community fundraiser. With 100% of the proceeds going to Life After Hate.

All proceeds benefit Life After Hate, a US non-profit created in 2011 by former members of the violent far-right extremist movement. They are dedicated to inspiring individuals to find compassion and forgiveness through education, guidance, and counsel.

Full Moon Meditation for Clearing & Balance

    Thursday, October 5th, 5:45pm - 7:15pm
Full Moon Meditation for Clearing & Balance

The full moon is a special time, especially for those who are following a yogic path, because it is an optimum time for clearing and balancing our mind and our energy.

The moon is deeply and intimately connected with our mind and our thoughts. Meditation can help to cleanse feelings of agitation, and can even provide us with a great opportunity to let go of the mental or emotional baggage that has been weighing us down. Meditating at the full moon also help us to unleash our creativity, whether we are focused on specific creative projects or we need new ways of thinking about the problems and issues we are facing. This practice can help us to release old, stuck, energy that no longer serves us.

During the class, we will clear our mind and balance our body’s chakras (energy centers) through a variety of Kundalini Yoga practices including breath work (pranayam), meditation, visualization, setting intentions, and a restorative sound bath with the symphonic Gong.

    Shine Your Light! 10-10-10

    October 10, 2017: 10-10-10

October, 10, 2017 in terms of numerology is a date of triple 10's!  The number 10 represents our Radiant Body, the 10th Body.  This is our ultimate identity and this date is the perfect time to expand and develop our radiance.  It's "All or Nothing" this month as we use our courage and creativity to overcome our obstacles and fears.

A powerful 10th body makes one courageous and radiant. You project royalty and grace, both in how you act and how you present yourself. You carry yourself very well and have a special light about you. You are bold and have finesse and good things come to you without much effort. Your presence is magnetic and attention comes to you naturally. A weak 10th body makes you timid and fear conflict or recognition. You may have fluctuating energy and have difficulty with commitment.

There are many things you can do to strengthen the tenth body and in this class we will practice a Kundalini yoga kriya specifically for strengthening the Radiant Body, as well as a meditation for the same effect.

Developing a strong and radiant 10th Body makes your inner light shine forth for all to see. You recognize and realize your own power and strength and allow others to see it.

    _____________________________________________

    About the Instruments:

    Paiste Gongs:

Planet Gongs are tuned to the natural harmonic series based on the orbital properties of the Earth, Moon, Sun, and Planets. All of these gongs resonate in harmony with the celestial bodies and communicate a distinct aspect of the Music of the Spheres, which was first documented by Pythagoras in the 6th Century BC. Each planet gong contributes a vital pitch to the total harmonic resonance of our solar system.

    Crystal Bowls:

The bowls are made of 99.992% crushed quartz crystal that is heated to 4000 degrees in a centrifugal mold. The thickness of the bowl determines the note, digitally tuned to C D E F G A and B corresponding to the charkas, our energy centers; root (C), sacral (D), solar plexus (E), heart (F), throat (G), third eye (A), and crown (B). The diameter of the bowl determines the pitch, ranging from 6 inches to 22 inches.

The archetype of the instrument may be seen in a harp, carried horizontally and struck with two sticks, found in iconographical documents of the ancient Babylonian (1600-911 BCE) and neo-Assyrian (911-612 BCE) eras.

    Vibraphone:

The vibraphone (also known as the vibraharp or simply the vibes) is a musical instrument in the struck idiophone subfamily of the percussion family. The vibraphone is similar in appearance to the xylophone, marimba and glockenspiel. Each bar is paired with a resonator tube having a motor-driven butterfly valve at its upper end, mounted on a common shaft, which produces a tremolo or vibrato effect while spinning. The vibraphone also has a sustain pedal similar to that used on a piano; when the pedal is up, the bars are all damped and the sound of each bar is shortened; with the pedal down, they will sound for several seconds. first musical instrument called "vibraphone" was marketed by the Leedy Manufacturing Company in the United States in 1921.

    Persian Santoor:

Persian santoor consists of a trapeziform case made of walnut wood, approximately 90 cm wide at the broad end, 36 cm wide at the narrow end and 6 cm deep. The strings are fixed to hitch-pins along the left-hand side and wound round metal wrest-pins on the right by means of which they are tuned with a tuning-key (Tuning Wrench). Each quadruple set of strings rests on a movable bridge of hardwood (kharak). The bridges are placed so that the strings are divided into three sections, giving the fundamental note and two higher octaves.

There are nine (or sometimes 10, 11 and 12) quadruple strings an either side so that, with 18 groups of strings, 27 different notes can be played. The bass strings are of brass or copper and the trebles of steel.

Persian santoor is played by striking the strings with two light hammers (mezrab) held in three fingers of each hand. The ends of the sticks are usually covered with cloth to soften their impact on the strings.

    Workshop - Yoga for Hockey

    Sunday, October 15th, 2:00pm - 4:00pm
    Workshop - Yoga for Hockey

Yoga asana (or yoga pose) is the perfect complement to hockey; creating body awareness, suppleness in the tissues and flexibility so that the body is able to adapt to new training and recover more quickly.

When the body is tight we have a higher chance of injury, additionally, tight muscles limit circulation, which increases recovery time. Overtight muscles also compress the joints, limiting movement. Strong athletic movements all originate from a stabilized neutral spine position - from this position we can react and adjust to just about any challenge coming our way.

Drawing on these principles, in this workshop we will:

    1. Discuss the muscles involved in our sport;
    2. Learn specific yoga asana to manage those muscles and joints; and
    3. Put it all together in a cross-training sequence and post-game sequence, so be ready to move!

You will be given the cross-training sequence (a vinyasa/yin) and the post-game sequence (yin-based) to take home with you.

This workshop is open to all levels of hockey players from the recreational to competitive; everyone is welcome. No yoga experience is necessary – this is the perfect guided workshop to add yoga to your training. Hockey players of all ages are welcome (young teen to adult)

    Cost: $40.00 per person.

New Moon Meditation for Prosperity & Abundance

    Thursday, October 19th, 5:45pm - 7:15pm
New Moon Meditation for Prosperity & Abundance

"Prosperity is a state produced immediately by the mind. When the sun comes out of the clouds, everything is lit. When the mind comes out of duality, prosperity is there."- Yogi Bhajan

Meditating at the time of the New Moon intensifies our intentions and makes it an ideal time to focus on prosperity (personal and business) and abundance using the energy of the New Moon combined with Kundalini Yoga kriyas and meditations.

Prosperity and abundance come in many forms.  When one’s internal attitude is out of alignment, it doesn’t matter what that person has or doesn’t have in the material world.  When we connect with an internal attitude of prosperity, we become like a magnet. The abundance of the universe flows to us.

Our class includes breath work (pranayam), a short yoga set (kriya) for awareness, a prosperity meditation followed by a deep relaxation (savasana) in the celestial sounds and vibrations of two Gongs.

Cost: PranaShanti Class Card or Drop-in Fee.

I also cried a lot when we were clearing the throat, I know I have a lot of issues there and they have been there for a long time. I was feeling really happy at the end when I was watching colours move like clouds over and over again. You are a great person and instructor and I'm really looking forward to another session with you soon!” - Anna, Ottawa
