    Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Program

    9 Week Series + Urban Retreat This 9-week experiential program develops in participants a foundation in mindfulness practice.
     
    The program begins with an Orientation Session, followed by 26 hours of direct instruction, including a meditation day retreat and daily home practices.
     
    MBSR is an 8-week, once weekly, group program that was developed in 1979, by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn and associates at the University of Massachusetts Centre for Mindfulness in Medicine, Healthcare and Society.
     
    The curriculum is based on the emerging field of Mind-Body Medicine and as a result, MBSR is now an internationally acclaimed program with a growing body of research supporting its efficacy and potential benefits for a variety of populations.
     
    Through intentional training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction strategies, participants will learn to mobilize their own inner resources to activate learning, growth and healing while increasing emotional regulation and enhancing self-care and interpersonal relationships.

    Dates and Times:
    • 1 orientation session (mandatory) on Wednesday, September 26, 2018.
    • Followed by 8 weekly sessions beginning Wednesday, October 3, 2018 to November 28, 2018.
    • Note: There will be no session on October 31.
    • Sessions are from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm.
    • Mindful Awakening Urban Retreat on Sunday, November 11, 2018, from 11:30 am to 6:00 pm.

    Learn about the historical evolution of yoga and how this philosophy can be applied to our lives and culture in modern times.

    The way to live a yogic lifestyle is to express our practice in everything that we do. Applying this practice to each moment, spreading the values of yoga into our daily, public and personal life is how to live yoga. This course supports participants in cultivating a practice that extends beyond the formal practice itself, and into the rest of their lives.

    Stepping into the role of a teacher is an endlessly  rewarding path, which also comes with its challenges. It is not the challenges that define a teacher but the way those challenges are met. Ethical issues that a teacher might face will be addressed along with how we can work through them in order to continue evolving as exceptional teachers.
     
    Learning Objectives:

    1. Develop a broader under standing of the history of yoga.
    2. Invite in and recognize some of the challenges encountered on the path of yoga and examine how
      to move through them.
    3. Explore and understand the foundational ethics of the yoga practice and how we can live with these values in our heart.

    Our Hatha Yoga Teacher Training program is designed to make yoga accessible to people of all ages, abilities, and fitness levels. We work on all levels of the body, mind and spirit, not only improving strength and flexibility but rejuvenating the whole being.
     
    Whether you plan to teach yoga, develop your own personal practice or would like to enhance your career by offering yoga, our program will give you a firm foundation to teach safely, skillfully and with integrity.
     
    Our Winter program is a total of 200+ hours including 180 contact hours (classroom and classes) and 40 personal study hours. The program meets and exceeds the requirements for a 200 hour Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT).

    Course Outline:

    • Teaching Asana - Learn to teach safely, effectively and with confidence.
    • Meditation - Learn to teach a variety of meditation techniques to focus and quiet the mind.
    • Pranayama - Learn to teach powerful breath (pranayama) techniques such as ujayi, kapalabhati, nadi sodhana and kumbhaka. Understand the bandhas or energy locks that direct prana (vital life force).
    • Anatomy - Western anatomy and physiology will be studied, including the various body systems, the physical effects of yoga on the body, how to avoid injury in key areas, and how to work with basic injuries.
    • Yogic Anatomy - learn the energetic effects of yoga on the body and the chakra and meridian systems.
    • Yogic History and Philosophy - study Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and how these teachings provide a very real model that can be applied to daily life.

    • 6:30 am – Sunrise practice/meditation at beach or in Casa Om Yoga Studio
    • 7:15 am - Yoga Class in Casa Om Yoga Studio
    • 8:30 am – Breakfast
    • Open Time: Choose one of the optional excursions, lounge by the pool, spend time at the beach or stroll into town.
    • 4 pm to 6 pm - Yoga class in Casa Om Yoga Studio
    • 6:30 pm – Dinner
    • 8:00 pm - Evening Yoga/Meditation at beach or in Casa Om Yoga Studio
